The recent post by Tracy Loetz: "Technical or Business?" and the post
by Mike Kelly on "Maximum Overdrive" were great and are serving to set
the stage for me to talk about my favorite hot button: WHO OWNS EDI IN
A COMPANY.

We have three choices:

(CHOICE 1) assign EDI to the business function that receives the most benefit.

This makes sense since they will probably end up paying for the EDI function even if we pick choices 2 or 3.

A Store Chain where ELECTRONIC COMMERCE is King

Europe has an excellent example of a store chain where ELECTRONIC COMMERCE is King. It is called Shecklers (www.schlecker.com)

Outsourcing Gone Awry

I�m sure all of you have heard of both the success and failure of companies outsourcing their EDI development and support to offshore IT consulting firms.

REMEDI has been involved with several customers that have decided to take this path. The plan was to have consultants from the offshore company come to the United States to get trained for 6-8 weeks, return to their country, and within a few weeks be able to take over the EDI department.
