2010 appears to be the year of Global expansion into new retail markets. With that outreach comes new trading issues, different divisions, and net new trading partners. If you’re in this mode, there are several things that you’ll need to consider when looking at Electronic trading. There are different EDI standards, different EDI transactions, different needs with regard to data content, and trading partners that may not have been asked in the past to support different order models when trading electronically. Who a supplier is trading with may determine what EDI standards you may need to support. Since writing in June on on-boarding your International Supply Chain, I’ve had quite a few questions regarding this process. There appears to be a misconception that suppliers outside of North America either are not able to support EDI programs (particularly the ASN) or, because of the use of Expeditor/Consolidators, do not need to support an EDI program. This assumption is incorrect.
