EDI TO FAX used to be a more popular option for very small companies than it is now. With the rise of the internet, most really small trading partners have switched from FAX to a web-based EDI service provider. However, there is still enough EDI data transmitted via FAX to make it worth discussing.
How It Works
The following is an example of how EDI TO FAX might work. A hub-size large enterprise sends out the EDI standard purchase order as they usually would, but the recipient is a third-party EDI TO FAX Service Bureau. This service bureau receives the EDI standard data and using some kind of EDI integration bridge adaptor converts the EDI standard data into a paper-like FAX document and sends out the FAX to its customer. The customer prepares a paper invoice and faxes the invoice to the service bureau. The service bureau receives the FAX document and keys in the information manually or scans it using OCR text recognition technology, then converts to an EDI standard document and transmits it to the hub-size company. Benefits EDI TO FAX and FAX TO EDI can only benefit very small companies that do not receive more than a total of 10 purchase orders per year. Analyzing Cost Almost all EDI TO FAX and FAX TO EDI services charge on transaction basis. The fees may range anywhere from $0.10 to $20 per document.
