I've been talking about an apparent increase in EDI activity for the last few months, and now I'm certain that it's happening. How is that playing out in your world? Since the last quarter of 2009, EDI transactions and activity in general have been in unusual patterns. The holiday buying season was unpredictable, retail activity actually increased in February, and enablements seem to have skyrocketed.

When I say enablements, I'm talking about everything from entirely new projects to adding new document types. I know this because I've received copies of enablement letters from more than a dozen companies, thanks to all of you who sent them in.

Here's a list of some of the companies moving forward with EDI:
  • The Sportsman's Guide
  • MCX
  • School Specialty
  • Loblaw
  • Christopher & Banks
  • MC Sports
  • Spencer's
  • Fastenal
  • Big Lots
I think this level of activity, is at the very least, an indication that companies are taking the opportunity during these changed economic conditions, to increase the efficiency of their operations. It's a trend worth emulating and expanding. What's happening in your organization to increase efficiency and tighten your relationships with your trading partners?
